Who would have thought that a failed assassination attempt on King James I and his ministers during the official opening of Parliament in 1605 would result in the abundant and extravagant celebrations experienced in the UK today. Festivities culminate with the burning of the straw dummy representing Guy Fawkes; the conspirator and explosives expert, discovered just in time amongst 36 barrels of gunpowder, in the cellars located under the Houses of Parliament.

More locally to us we experience the extravagant Lewes Fireworks event; the biggest celebrated Fifth November Event in the world! This is in fact not just one celebration as it is actually made up of six separate Lewes Bonfire Society’s; all staging celebrations in various parts of the town, each with their own processions, traditions, costumes, fire sites and fireworks.

We love sparkle in all its forms, but our favourite has to be that of precious metals and gemstones.
